We train on a Sunday morning in the sports hall at Allestree Woodlands School during term time. The sessions do not have strict age groups, but here is a guide of what to expect. Coaches, in discussion with parents/guardians will make a decision after initial trial sessions which group your daughter will be placed.
Sessions are progressive and follow a new framework delivered by Level 1 and 2 coaches, ensuring your daughter gathers core and advanced skills appropriately to develop her game and enable her to pursue her chosen pathway. We work hard to create a positive, supportive and respectful training environment where the girls feel confident to explore new skills and strategies, knowing that mistakes are a natural and accepted part of learning.
Allestree is a highly successful club and have already developed and supported a number of players who have progressed to national squads, Loughborough Lightning, Nottingham Forest, county and regional teams and we are incredibly proud of this. We would llike this progress to continue so are working on introducing new elements into our coaching calendar and will include professional coaches to deliver specialist sessions, running drop-down training focused on positional development, providing regional-level training for the current U14 squad, and preparing a new U16 team ahead of trials in June 2027, along with plenty of additional enrichment opportunities. We would love to hear your suggestions and ideas.
Allestree Coaching - What to Expect
Players can expect to cover these areas in their Sunday training sessions, each stage approximately runs over two years. Coaches choose their order and inclusion after consideration of matches to be played/playing, strengths and areas for improvement for each group and of course fun!
A typical session will consist of;
Register 10 mins prior to session - welcome, register and kit check (🧡We also love to hear about your netball achievements from the week!💙)
Warm-up - Prompt session start with activation and pulse raisers, each movement related to movements from the game of netball.
Progressive drills - technique and application to the game of equal importance
Games - conditioned and/or purpose driven games to embed the new skills and techniques. We often have Young Volunteer Umpires in the sessions who run the game so we can give live game coaching, often this will be small group or 1-1.
Throughout the year we will introduce our position‑specific training that will give players focused time on their individual positions, helping them grow their technical skills and tactical awareness. The aim is to give them real, practical ideas they can use when facing different opponents in matches, combining both thinking and physical application. Dates TBC after Regional matches are announced.
We’re also hoping to introduce visiting coaches where possible, depending on availability and cost.
Allestree Netball Framework
This framework outlines our coaching approach. It isn’t a session‑by‑session plan, but it gives you a clear idea of the kind of content and development your player will experience across the programme.
